LATEST PROJECT
Wallington Farms
Our latest project was the construction of a timber-frame farm office for Wallington Farms in Hertfordshire.
The key priorities for the client on this project were to ensure that the office would deliver a high-quality build, high-performing in energy efficiency and in-keeping aesthetically with the surrounding farm while controlling costs to remain within budget.
The construction achieved an Energy Performance Certificate rating of ‘A’ through a combination of minimising heat loss, with a sufficiently insulated and airtight envelope, and producing low-energy heating to the building through the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump. On this project, Fan-Coil-Units controlled by the heat pump, were installed to provide low-energy heating and cooling through elegant, flush mounted grilles. A Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery system was also installed, interlinking with the heating and cooling to provide suitable ventilation without losing heat efficiency.
The office was finished externally in black timber weatherboard cladding with black flush casement windows, a cottage style door and a corrugated steel roof to replicate the look of the previous barn.
Internally, the approach was to provide a contemporary office design with smooth, plastered and painted surfaces, LED batten lighting, carpet tile flooring and electrical skirting ducts to the perimeter of the office spaces providing electrical socket and data points at various locations.
Another feature of this construction was the meeting room, constructed with acoustic twin-walls to provide a sound-proofed space.
The construction was on a concrete slab which previously sited a barn and after inspection with the structural engineer, was deemed sufficient to build on so groundworks on this project were minimal.
